Florent Meng’s film project was motivated by a desire “to make a crystal speak and converse with a mountain.” Building from the act of removing a quartz from the Mont Blanc massif, The Analogue Tracks adopts a documentary approach to explore the open experimental processes of the possible translation of this mineral. The artist’s investigation borrows viewpoints and timeframes that are specific, in Europe and the United States, to interactions with people (crystal hunters, scientists, musicians, self-taught specialists, etc.), landscapes, and texts, weaving a multifaceted visual and petrolinguistic form of the crystalline stone.

Conceived as part of the “Monde Nouveaux” initiative, and produced and distributed by Ballender Films, the film version of Meng’s project is scheduled for release in the spring of 2024. La Villa du Parc is showing for the first time a multiscreen installation version that is accompanied by new artworks produced especially for the exhibition, adding to the project’s immersive, kaleidoscopic dimension.
